Jake Bonnel is a lawman with an approach to law enforcement that embraces the old ways with a willingness to enforce the law through the finality of a bullet or a rope. As a lawman, he is a legend to the young. To the “civilized,” he is no more than a thorny, unwanted necessity. With changing times and an evolving legal system, Jake stood out as a relic of the past to the town leaders prompting the conclusion of his tenure as sheriff for the town of Livingston, Kansas. But with consequences for breaking laws getting softer and the legalities of enforcing them getting harder, the town has steadily perpetuated an environment where the crooked can thrive on technicalities while the rest suffer. Maybe the old brand of justice had some merit to it after all. Now it’s time for the fathers of Livingston to decide if they can let pride go before the coming fall. Can they come to it?
