There was no click as the collar circled Jack’s neck with soul-crushing efficiency. Knees bent with legs under him, he knelt in a pose of defeat. Blank eyes blurred all surroundings as his mind fought to comprehend the jarring switch from being a slave in an office just hours before to now being chained to other people. The opening of the portals changed the normal that he knew, instantaneously nullifying his well-versed knowledge of full-time-job video games and formulaic shows incurably addicted to laugh tracks. With the world physically changing and humanity no longer the apex civilization, Jack must learn to adapt to survive, or succumb to the collar and whip. Inside is a world turning backwards. In a sudden shift, technology is no longer working, buildings are crumbling, and cars and metal are badly rusted.
