John Bagnell Bury (1861-1927) was an accomplished Irish scholar of the classics and ancient history, who spent most of his career at the University of Cambridge. His prodigious output of scholarly works includes volumes on the ancient Greek poet Pindar, the history of classical Greece and the Roman Empire, and studies of the Byzantine Empire.
