Inspiration for this new American art form began while I was living in Norway in 1979. I began creating Symbolic Art Patterns (SartP) after designing the trademarked Lewis and Guggenheim Collection of black iconography in 1991 with the late Mary Guggenheim in Paris, France. It was then that I gave birth to the first Symbolic Art Pattern. I have relentlessly given 20 years of some refinement as well as innovative design to the Symbolic Art Patterns launched in this small book. My journey is still beginning. Renelle D. Lewis August 4, 2011 Poway, California “the meeting of little valleys” The journey started in 1978, four years after Renelle graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. It was then that she gave birth to the first Symbolic Art Pattern. She has designed these patterns to remove all controversy and formalism, race, color, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, size, and age from her subjects, suggesting a sense of oneness. It is important to Renelle that these Patterns be protected and guided into the best possible form, because of their historical and spiritual importance.
