This book has transcriptions of two archaic histories about the region of Dawei, Myanmar. The first is the Hta-wel Yazawin Tawgyi , or "Great Chronicle of Dawei," which was composed from palm-leaf manuscripts by the monks Mayanbin Sayadaw in 1759 CE, and Bongyan Sayadaw in 1764. The second is the Dawei Thamine Chok , or "A Brief History of Dawei", which was written by Saydadaw U Gu-Na and published in 1924. The transcriptions, typesetting and artwork are faithful to the originals, both of which were found in the British Library with the gracious help of its archivists. As well, Ni Ni Aung has made English summaries for each of the 122 chapters of the Hta-wel Yazawin . As revealed by her work, the primary story of this chronicle is the migration of people from Thaton to Kalein Aung in the 7th century. The story and details of the city's establishment show the great influence of Buddhism and the Pali language at the time. It also places it alongside other ancient chronicles, particularly the Cāmadevivaṃsa , or "Legend of Queen Cama", and the Tanintharyi Yazawin , or "Chronicles of Tenasserim."
