It has always been hard to 'grow up'. In our currently confusing world it can be even more difficult. There are MANY questions that growing humans AND their parents have. For the growing person these center around figuring out self identity, learning self confidence, developing and understanding what my values are and how they work in the world- even what my personal characteristics are....am I competitive? Shy or social? Do I have family stuff to deal with while I am trying to figure out me? These an nay more assault and test the growing human. And what is the goal- the Holy Grail of human development? Why to become a self aware and resilient person comfortable with who you are. And how can we get to this goal? This can be accomplished by using tools that have existed for centuries but seem to have gotten lost a bit. First we all need help. Mentors- those who can show examples of how to life, what works. Second we need to have the courage to follow these folks and in so doing learn both trust and skills to use in daily life. Third, we need to share what we have learned in our life apprenticeship with others. In this book, Gramps, Dr. Winkler shares what he learned about himself and life as he grew from age ten to fifteen from his association with his maternal grandfather. There are lessons in here from the ages. He invites you to read of his journey, compare it to yours- share both with others. If you do not have one, find a mentor-they are all around.
