Epilogue 2020 I entered this year believing it would be the most difficult of my life. During the two weeks I spent with her, I was accused of abandoning her. That was never my intention. I took her there because I was no longer able to care for her, and she was no longer in a position to care for me. Her family was fully aware of the circumstances, yet chose to ignore the honest reality. The day before I was set to leave, an incident occurred that gave them the opportunity to remove me from her property and ultimately disown me. I firmly believe that members of the Toledo-Aguilar family in San Pedro Sula had orchestrated this outcome. On the night of her passing, the second youngest sister, Luisa Elvira Zambrano-Toledo, told me I was mentally unstable. They insisted I admit myself to a healthcare facility, not out of genuine concern, but to remove me from their lives. I refused to give them that satisfaction. They may have claimed the house, but in time, I trust that life will hold them accountable. I pray that their descendants learn the value of empathy and integrity through their own experiences. This year marked the last time I would celebrate my birthday—and other meaningful occasions—with my mother. I could not be there for hers. She was in another country, and I had to leave a few months before her final birthday. I wasn’t there in her last days, and I know I would not have been able to endure a second period of such pain. She passed away just days later. Their actions served a clear purpose. Once again, they were driven by selfishness and greed over property, an issue that has always existed among them. They had long discussed plans to connect the two houses. While they may believe they will succeed, I believe that eventually, their actions will carry consequences. Throughout my life, especially into my middle age, the only people I could truly rely on were my parents. I have experienced personal loss in ways that are difficult to express. Many others my age have settled down, married, and built families. I have not had those experiences, and that reality continues to shape my life.
