About this item

CONCERT DATES

Sex, Drugs, Rock ‘n’ Roll! It’s a cliché, but for the group of teenagers at the heart of CONCERT DATES , it’s real life. Cape Cod in the summer of '76, and the salty air vibrates with the sound of roaring rock concerts. Brian and Til make a promise: an annual pilgrimage to a show, a symbol of their enduring connection and a bittersweet reminder of their youth. But life's beautiful complications will test the strength of their bonds as they search for the true meaning of family and real love. DAISY JONES AND THE SIX meets THE NOTEBOOK in this nostalgic look at youthful dreams and the realities of growing older all set against the soundtrack of a generation. Dedicated to all the rock and roll fans: those who swear they were there, those who probably were but can't remember, the ones with faded ticket stubs (somewhere), and the ones still wandering the parking lot looking for their car. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During the 1970s and early 80s, the Cape Cod Coliseum became a hotspot (emphasis on the word hot!) for some of the biggest names in music. In spite of the bad sound and dreadful steam-bath heat, a who’s-who of Classic Rock bands made their way to the small village of South Yarmouth, MA. Chuck Berry, The Grateful Dead, Van Halen, Sly and the Family Stone, Talking Heads, Earth Wind & Fire, Aerosmith, KISS, Peter Frampton, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the J. Geils Band - performing there ten times! Each show felt like a mini-Woodstock; a smoky ‘70s tailgate scene with beer and weed hanging in the air from station wagons and vans. More than just the pounding rock and roll, it was a powerful sense of community and camaraderie, building relationships that lasted long after the music ringing in your ears subsided. ********** GRIF: 'You ever wonder why the Boomers and Gen Xers look perpetually mad and unimpressed? It’s because we meticulously built record empires of lovingly curated vinyl, only to be told, ‘Nope. Tapes now.’ So, we did! We bought flimsy plastic cassettes that got eaten by car stereos. Then came shiny compact discs, requiring another purchase spree. Then, we had to practically take computer courses just to learn how to burn MP3s. We basically bought the same music four times! Replaced our record collection with a tape collection that we had to replace with a CD collection that we had to replace with an MP3 collection - and we still don’t own it. Now you need to buy a streaming subscription! Our patience wore out somewhere between rewinding a cassette with a pencil and using the CDs as beer coasters!'
