How did this revised reprint come about? Mack Tomlinson was visiting our church and encouraged me to look into George Hunter: Apostle of Turkestan by Mildred Cable and Francesca French. I did—and that led me to discover The Making of a Pioneer: Percy Mather of Central Asia by the same authors. What stood out was that both biographies mentioned Missionary Methods: St. Paul’s or Ours? by Roland Allen. These men were active on the mission field, reading this book, and it clearly shaped their approach. That’s why this became a natural trilogy for me—three books tied together by a shared vision for missions. You can read Allen’s book to see what he believed was biblical, then follow up with the two corresponding biographies to see how those convictions were lived out.
