Get ready to fill your culinary passport with stamps as you explore each unique and mouthwatering destination. In this extraordinary cookbook, you're not just flipping through pages – you are embarking on a global quest filled with scrumptious recipes and exciting cooking experiences. Your culinary passport will be your guide, and with each recipe you conquer, you'll earn a stamp that represents the country you've visited. A note from your Culinary Tour Guide: Welcome, young chefs, to “Around the World in Delicious Bites,” a magical journey that will take your taste buds on an adventure to discover the flavors of different countries! My name is Trent and I will be your tour guide as we travel the world making delicious food and learning a little bit about the countries and places we visit. But first let me tell you two things about myself: I LOVE food and I LOVE traveling! When I was a young boy, when I arrived home from school, my mother would often ask me how my school day was. I didn’t talk about my sports victories or the grades I did (or didn’t) earn, instead, my response was usually centered around what the school cafeteria served at lunchtime that day: “My day was great, they served mashed potatoes and cornflake cookies!” or “It was alright, we had sloppy joes.” Later, in high school my best friends and I started a rock band. Can you guess the name of our first original song? It was called “Hungry!” Food still plays a big role in my life and now in my travel plans! In fact, when my family first moved to Portugal, we drove straight to the Pastéis de Belém bakery in Lisbon to try their famous Pastéis de Nata, and boy were they GOOOD! For the next several weeks, every trip to the grocery store included picking up a new pastry to share. Maybe someday I will share my top 10 or top 15 Portuguese/European pastries!? While serving as a missionary for my church in German-speaking Switzerland, I tried new cheeses as often as I could. I kept the labels of my favorite new cheeses and laminated them to the cover of my journals, making a beautiful cover for the journals. This colorful cover also told the story of my culinary travels through Switzerland! Whether it is eating tapas in Seville, Spain, devouring cheese fondue or raclette in the Swiss Alps, enjoying Huli Huli chicken while watching some of Oahu’s best fire dancers, savoring a traditional Bratwurst in the Black Forrest, folding my pizza in the shadows of the Brooklyn Bridge, eating Ifisashi and Nshima while listening to traditional harmonies outside of Lusaka, Zambia, or experiencing Bacalhau while listening to crashing waves in the Portuguese Algarve, many of my most vivid and favorite travel memories include enjoying great food with people I love. I am excited to share this journey with you! I hope you will enjoy the simplified versions of some of my favorite dishes from countries and places around our beautiful earth! Bon appétit!!!
