Five Rivers of Poetry was four decades in the making. Poet Michael R. Gorman is from California’s Great Valley where countless rivers and streams run down the slopes of the mighty Sierra Nevada mountains, into the valley, and out to the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Five of those rivers have special meaning to the poet, who grew up since his teens along the banks of them, as recounted in the final poem of the collection, “My Life In Rivers.” He has also walked the sacred rivers of his ancestral homeland, Ireland. The poems in this book range from beautiful pastoral poetry, to humor, to biting social commentary, to autobiography, and everything in between. Some are peacefully nature-based, some are funny, and others are gritty, urban, and sometimes painful to read. The poems are arranged in five “rivers,” giving you choice about which riverbank you wish to sit upon.
