The gripping narrative allows us to understand first-hand what humans might experience if such an event would take place and left the civilization in ruins and the remaining humans fighting to survive. St-Pierre does an excellent job exploring what the psychological and physical implications and struggles of such run-for-survival might be. With a well-balanced pacing, the story unfolds under our eyes and we get a glimpse of optimism that things will turn out well in the end, despite the terrifying yet mesmerizing appearances of the giant ants. St-Pierre's ability to combine the thrills of ant-chasing with the hope that the world can be fixed makes this novel a must-read for the fans of the genre. You might think "An apocalyptic world led by ants?" Why not? It's impossible not to like this book even if you are not into the apocalyptic genre or an ant enthusiast. It's really that well-written.
