The book is a guide for the Vietnamese Youth Educational Association (VYEA) Summer School program, designed to teach Vietnamese language and culture to students in grades 1 through 6. The learning regiment consists of 20 minute sessions, four times a day, three days a week for six weeks per grade, with a total of six grades to graduate. Grade 5 focuses on 13 spelling lessons, 9 vocabulary lessons, 12 sentences lessons, 5 conversation lessons, 8 social studies lessons, 12 illustrated or word-only stories with homework, and 3 composition lessons.
