About this item

The Legends of Toru-Ofoni: An African Literature

The Legends of Toru-Ofoni is a collection of oral tradition told by my parents: Pa Prelayefa Bruce Kwami Yerekimigha, and Mrs Lily Yerekimigha. Others are, Pa Lucky Buseni, and Chief Stephen E. O Gbeke. Here is an African literature that tells the story of an ancient cult of warriors, traditional beliefs and practices in Kabowei clan of the Ijaw tribe in Southern Nigeria. It is a culture of bravery, survival, self-defense, and redemption. The book is a kaleidoscope of culture, and highlights how an African society evolved over time with the advent of Christianity, and the encroachment of modernity, and how the people grapple with change amidst the threats to their survival. The story revolves around some actual characters and events, but spiced up with fiction. It is another contribution to the literary society, and to positively impact on the society at large.
