This story may be the greatest story of the " Greatest Little " circus in America! The M. L. Clark and Son's Combined Circus ran in some form from 1884 to 1945. Starting with M. L.'s older brother, Wiley C. "W. C." Clark, this circus began humbly with minstrel shows, patent medicine and balloon ascensions, through a "Wild West" phase, into an internationally-known "America's Circus". Along the way, M. L. Clark had the 2 largest elephants in the world: Old Ned (later called Tusko) and Mena, both elephants with a fascinating story themselves. M. L. Clark settled in Alexandria in Central Louisiana as his winter quarters and was the center of attention in Louisiana. Mrs. Clark purchased what maybe the first pre-fabricated house ever built in Louisiana. Over the years, the circus had many unusual workers and their names and stories appeared in newspapers all over the world for their famous (and infamous) activities.
