Miscellanies The word "miscellanies" is defined as a collection of writings on various subjects, collected in one book. One of the most famous collection of such writings is the multi-volume Miscellanies of Jonathan Edwards. Edwards was an American preacher, missionary, prolific writer, and theologian who lived from 1703 to 1758. Edwards used a note-taking system over several decades which ultimately resulted in personal notebooks containing approximately 1,400 different writings on various theological and Biblical topics. He began his collection of "Miscellanies" when he was 19 years old. How It Works In a "Miscellanies" system, each subject is assigned a number. When used with a Bible note-taking system, you would also add that number in the margin of your Bible, next to the passage which prompted your thoughts. Use of this system doesn't prevent you from writing notes in the margins of your Bible - it simply provides a mechanism for associating longer notes with passages in the Scriptures. Multiple notes regarding the same topic can be cross-referenced to provide a thread of insights in your journals.
