DrDriving Media Interviews on Aggressive Driving, Road Rage, Air Rage, Bicycling Rage, Parking Rage, Pedestrian Rage (Driving Psychology Series)

Some questions tend to recur multiple times, as for instance: Why is aggressive driving so widespread? Is road rage increasing? Statistically, are men better drivers than women? What kind of actions by another driver most often trigger someone to drive aggressively? Is aggressive driving on the increase? How do you define “road rage” and "aggressive driving"? What are the triggers for this sort of rage? Why did you decide to start the new field of "driving psychology?" What makes it so difficult for drivers to share the roads with bicyclists, skaters, and pedestrians. The top complaints by drivers about other drivers are these: 1. Being Tailgated or followed too close 2. Being cut off or the driver cutting in too soon 3. Not signaling lane changes or turns 4. Running red lights 5. Hogging the passing lane and not moving over 6. Making an obscene gesture Other questions journalists ask: Is addressing road rage for teenagers during drivers' education another element that could help to alleviate road rage? How can women drivers avoid being the victims of road rage? Can it be seen as a symptom of society's growing loss of community, a decay of moral values? Do you believe that we must consider road rage as a kind of public health problem? Why has road rage become more common over the years? Is it just a sign of the times or a reflection on our society as a whole? Does parking lot rage signify a coarsening of attitudes and an erosion of public etiquette? What triggers active-sidewalk rage? What thought/psychological processes lead to this type of anger? What factors might be causing air rage incidents and how should they be handled? We need to realize that some popular video games with cars may facilitate aggressive driving habits. As well, TV and commercials may be a factor in spreading aggressive driving styles through the symbols that they portray. There are other forms of rage that may be observed in public places, such as: bullying rage - shopping cart rage - surfing rage - computer rage - desk rage - air rage - parking rage - etc. Aggressive driving is driving under the influence of impaired emotions. There are three categories of impaired emotions: Impatience and Inattentiveness - Power Struggle - Recklessness and Road Rage Aggressive driving looks to individual performance issues, like who gets ahead, or who gets there first, or how many cars can you keep out of your lane. In contrast, supportive driving aims to facilitate, not compete, with other drivers and uses the teamwork model—everybody needs to get through. Supportive drivers help other drivers do what they want, instead of deliberately standing in their way as with aggressive drivers. For driving psychology, I provide self-evaluation scales and scores to assist those who are attempting a driving personality makeover.
