HUNGRY: The Gospel for Eating Disorders

According to research done by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, anorexia is the most common cause of death for young women in Canada. 1 in 10 of those diagnosed die of health issues or suicide, and among those that remain 50% will never recover. Something has to change. The lives of too many people depend on the probability of a coin toss. Jesus died so that we'd all be free – not half of us. We can do better than that. He has done better than that. I believe we are all deeply, spiritually hungry. We desperately pursue happiness, chasing beauty, achievement, and acceptance in an attempt to fill a void that only God can. This is the story of what God has taught me through my pursuit of happiness - through anorexia, anxiety, and everything in between. It's a story of pain, identity, control, fear, and rest. It's a story of family, friends, and the faith that helped me hold on. My prayer for HUNGRY is that it will point you to the God who fills. I’ve seen personally that the gospel applies to every part of our lives, particularly what is hidden and painful. In writing this book, I’ve tried to enter into those places. And I’ve tried to point you to Jesus. My prayer is that you’ve found healing and hope, but more importantly, my prayer is that you’ve found Christ.
