PREMIUM FALKLAND WOOL: Famous for its pure white color and lofty texture, it is so soft, it can be worn directly on bare skin. Falkland wool is pooled from a number of different sheep breeds like Corriedale, Polwarth and Merino. Since there are no known sheep diseases in the Falkland Islands, the sheep are never dipped. The wool is guaranteed to be chemical free. KIND TO SKIN & PLANET: Cruelty Free. Ethically sourced from non-mulesed flocks and sustainably hand dyed. Only non-toxic dyes and vinegar were used and no water was wasted in the dye process. Packaged in a facility run on solar energy and dedicated to recycling. DETAILS & CARE: 4oz of Combed Top, Braided – 100% Premium Falkland Wool – average of 26 microns – average of 3-5 inch staple length – Spinning, Wet Felting, Nuno Felting, Needle Felting, Blending and Wall Hangings – Care: hand wash with cold water and wool detergent, lay flat to dry. Double Dip - this fiber got rhythm! Cleverly designed to have repeating color sequences; this roving makes it easy to spin some fabulously colorful yarn. The intense, saturated colors are achieved by dyeing in small batches and carefully hand painting each roving strand by hand. No two will look exactly the same – a celebrated hallmark of hand dyed fiber. As with all hand dyed fiber, we recommend purchasing the full amount you will need for your project to assure that they come from the same dye bath. Falkland wool is a high quality, wonderfully textured fiber to work with. It is soft enough to wear on bare skin and, for beginning spinners, handles a bit easier than Merino. All wool from the Falkland Islands is raised in a cooperative manner and gathered into one large wool pool. Due to the harsh climate on the islands, insects and disease normally associated with sheep are not a problem. Therefore, the sheep are never dipped and never go through mulesing, making wool from the Falkland Islands chemical free. Sheep have been so important to the history and economy of the Falklands, that they even have a sheep on their flag and the daily weather forecast on Falklands Radio includes the wind chill temperature for newly shorn sheep!
