Ground Marjoram has a similar but gentler flavor to oregano. This herb is delicious with fish sauces, salads, Italian, and Greek dishes. Marjoram blends well with parsley, dill, basil and thyme. Marjoram powder is sometimes referred to as sweet marjoram, wild oregano or knotted marjoram. This powdered form is great in blends or mixed with stuffing for poultry or pork. You will also find it used commercially in seasonings for liverwurst, bologna, cheeses, soups and salad dressings. It can also be used as a cocktail ingredient, especially when combined with other sweet ingredients. The French add Marjoram to the herb blends Bouquet Garni and Fines Herbes for flavoring fish, lamb and pork dishes. In Germany, it's called the "sausage herb" and is used with thyme and other spices in different types of sausages. Ground marjoram is used to add aroma to some types of soaps and cosmetics.
