Species is US Native, not introduced alien Seed Packet designed for 15 Square Feet of Planting Columbine is a 1’ to 3’ tall native perennial that will form large colonies in ideal growing conditions. It grows best in dry to moist well drained soils in light to moderate shade but will tolerate full sun sites. Columbine flowers in spring and early summer featuring showy red and yellow bell-like flowers with distinctive long red spurs hanging upside-down from the tips of the slender branches. This is a great plant for native plant gardens, woodland gardens, borders, and other landscaping sites with some shade. Hummingbirds are attracted to this plant, and it is an important food source in the spring when little else is available.
