To experience an emotional torrent of emotions by being swept away in the flood of Africa's tears doesn't begin to describe the tsunami of words that bleed from these young poets and authors. So I ask you this... Is it fair that France can colonise Afrika; is it just for the USA to control us; is it right for Britian's influence still to be so brutally evident in the lands it had colonised, despite Afrika being depicted as free? And yet, within all this darkness, Afrika shines her light, truly evident in the blood spilled by these poets and writers with how we have connected with the world, displaying our beauty irrespective of our pain, our disconnectivity amongst each other, our loss of love, loved ones, the 'mixed breeds' who are a 'rainbow race,' and our unity across our divides for a unified and free Afrika. Hence, our Ubuntu is so much stronger than the enslavement and theft of the West, and those who call Afrika home, irrespective of race and religion, we truly are patriots to our countries and our Afrika. This anthology, by Charles Lipanda Mahigwe and Ruth Takondwa, and all those who contributed, gives a voice to the latter. These orphaned poets, these refugees, give raw and horrific accounts of how Afrika has been raped, is being raped, and murdered - both the land and its people. Western artillery has become our destruction, by the West and ourselves, and our fight for freedom...
