ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Since its publication in 1952, Confabulario has captivated generations of readers and established Juan José Arreola as one of the most original and significant voices in contemporary Mexican literature. From fantastic tales to animal fables, from the magical to the phantasmagorical, from superfluous solemnity to meaningful nonsense, from idealized love to the most beautiful metaphors of pain and death; the twenty stories that make up Confabulario traverse a space of wisdom, humor, and extraordinary wit. Considered by the author himself as his “mature stories and those most resembling them,” they are a dazzling display of imagination, sensitivity, and literary mastery.
