Christmas trees bring joy and delight to families all over the world. Everyone has memories of a magnificent family Christmas tree or one of the huge trees towering in the square in his or her hometown. There’s even a Christmas tree at the White House! Scrubby, a little pine tree at the Christmas tree farm, knows he will never get to go to the White House or any other special place. He isn’t a Fraser fir or a Colorado blue spruce. He’s just a scrub pine. He’s so little and scrawny that no family would ever pick him for their tree. Although King, the crow, assures him that he has his own special purpose, Scrubby can’t block out the jeers of the other trees. Maybe they’re right. Maybe he is useless. But Scrubby’s friends—Kels, the ladybug, and Hunter, the farmer’s son—see that he is special after all. In this holiday story, the two show Scrubby that he doesn’t have to be like all the other trees to be special. It’s his unique qualities that will make people take notice. When Scrubby receives some very important visitors, he finally finds his own surprising purpose. Dr. Raymond Dunn has an undergraduate degree in elementary education and advanced degrees in higher education administration. He has taught at both the elementary level and the college level. He has served as the chairman of the board for the Community Coordinated Childcare Program in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and as the dean of students at Miami-Dade Community College and Lake City Community College.
