About this item

Ascend: Leadership Lessons at 28,000 Feet

Extreme adventure and elite leadership meet in this spellbinding account of a veteran Fortune 200 executive's quest to conquer the legendary Seven Summits—the highest mountains on every continent. Are there truly business leadership lessons you can learn at 28,000 feet? Well, put it this way--on the mountain, with hurricane-force gales, extreme exposure, and falling ice-blocks the size of a house, if you don't learn some lessons, and learn them fast, you simply die. At a time when the rat race has millions of people feeling trapped, discouraged, and drained, Ascend boldly declares you can embrace the challenge of living your dream. Mark Carr is a speaker, writer and certified leadership coach. He is also an elite adventurer and mountain climber and has worked as a professional outdoor adventure guide in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. He has climbed mountains all over the world and has successfully summited the highest peak on six of the seven continents. Additionally, he has climbed all the 14,000- foot peaks in Colorado, as well as such iconic summits as the Matterhorn, the Eiger, and Mt. Blanc. As a sought-after keynote and workshop presenter, he shares pictures, stories and leadership lessons from his climbs and translates those lessons to the corporate world through his passion to positively impact others by instilling quality leadership principles that can transform the employee experience. He also speaks about overcoming fear and adversity, again weaving in riveting pictures and stories from his adventures around the world. He has spoken at conferences and seminars for international companies such as Motorola, Celestica, Deutsche Telecom and T-Systems. He is a Fortune 200 Human Resource Executive with almost 25 years experience in human capital management, including employee engagement, strategic workforce planning, succession planning, leadership assessment and mergers and acquisitions. He has a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology (concentrating in Forensic Psychology) from Arizona State University. As an undergraduate, Mark played Division 1 varsity baseball, and was an Academic All American his senior year of college. Mark is certified in both DISC and the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator. Mark is the founder and president of The Summit Paradigm .
