At first I thought I'd make the drones passive, distant, little known participants, while focusing more on the people. But this story had a mind of its own and soon enough I was neck-deep in drone manufacturing, technologies, payloads, ordnance, systems, deployment models, testing, and engagement.    What a mesmerizing world that is!
