The Chemistry of Natural Dyes enables high school chemistry teachers to introduce their students to a fascinating area of industrial chemistry-dyes and colorants. The book examines the chemistry behind natural fibers and dyes and shows how these chemistry concepts are used in the real world. Background information on the history and chemistry of natural dyes is provided along with hands-on problem-solving activities on extracting, testing, and using these chemicals. This monograph is the second in a three-volume series of monographs entitled Palette of Color. These monographs are designed to provide links between the everyday experiences of secondary school students and topics in their chemistry courses. I found the three volumes that make up the Palette of Color monograph series to be well written and very useful resources around which a teacher can construct a unit on the chemistry of dyes and food colors.
