Nurses, Computers and Information Technology

The "Working for Patients" (1988) series of Government White Papers have emphasized the need for information as a basis for the delivery of health care. Much of the information is provided by nurses and other health science disciplines. Information technology has developed so quickly that many people have not had the opportunity to turn the key that provides the power to having control of information. For some the learning curve may seem too daunting to attempt the ascent. In this work, the author provides the key and demonstrates that computer literacy is not only necessary for patient care but that its use is a fascinating and enjoyable means to, not only greater efficiency but, new approaches to practice. The book provides an account of the use of computers and an interpretation of the language used and, in so doing, demystifies a development that has made many experienced practitioners feel temporarily at a loss.
