An abortionist is found dead in his clinic, and in his lapel is a cloisonné rose whose stem curls around to spell the word “Life.” When pro-life detective Katie Kelly and her partner Isaac Flores are chosen to lead the investigation, Kelly finds herself wishing for the good old days solving car thefts and drug shootings. Is the murderer someone she knows? Police Chief Frank Taylor – and the rest of the world – think it must be, and Kelly is very much afraid that it is. Is it the clinic’s security guard who walked out on his job the week before the murder? Is it the vet who returned from Afghanistan to try (unsuccessfully) to talk his wife out of an abortion? What is Kelly’s friend Peggy not telling her? The doctor’s widow has just filed for divorce. She has a million dollar life insurance policy – and an air tight alibi. Kelly’s women friends from the Tuesday afternoon quilting group urge her to think creatively. With their help and encouragement, Kelly juggles her personal feelings, police force politics, and the demands of home and family to bring the murderer to justice. Lise Rosenthal was a seamstress on a kibbutz during the 1980's where she and her husband Vic raised their three children, returning to the United States in 1988 to found a computer software company. For twenty-five years, she met on Tuesday afternoons with a unique group of friends to make quilts for charity while sharing the ups and downs of their lives. In 2014, she and Vic moved back to Israel where Lise writes and quilts.
