Birgitta Gottlieb McGalliard is a retired foreign language teacher, who has spoken to many students over the years about her family's experiences during and after World War II and shared her story with various community and international groups. She currently resides in Boone, North Carolina after having spent her growing up years living in various countries including Austria, Sweden, Germany, Canada and the United States because of her father's work as a German diplomat. Her father's handwritten memoir in German and her promise to him compelled her to interpret her father's story for the modern reader, informed and illuminated the memories Birgitta and her sisters shared as she was writing this biographical story.
