About this item

You Will Design Spaceships (You Will ____ Space)

Have you ever wanted to design your own spaceship? In You Will Design Spaceships you can learn how. The third book in the You Will ____ Space TM Series, You Will Design Spaceships combines simple definitions of spaceship terms, easy to perform experiments, and illustrations, to walk even young readers through the parts of spacecraft, the many systems, and how they work together. From the reasons (missions) for your spaceship, to choosing engines, to thinking about thrust, and structure. These complex-sounding ideas are broken down so that little to no prior knowledge is required. After reading this book, the child (or adult) will be able to look at modern spaceships and understand why they look like they do, and know a little bit about how they work. A great book for the aspiring engineer, scientist, or astronaut. Also, a good resource for early STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) courses. At the end are simple math problems for the advanced reader. Read this book and You Will Design Spaceships! This is the third book in my open-ended series of You Will ___ Space(TM) books. It was tough to break down the many topics that go with designing modern and future spacecraft, but I did my best in 48 pages, and I think you will like the result.  While any age will enjoy the dozens of simple illustrations, and some of the concepts, a smart 3rd grader or older will really dig into it. The book breaks spaceship design into component systems, and then adds in structure to put it all together.   Like the previous books, the experiments use things commonly available like water bottles, balloons, chopsticks, paper, and tape.  One experiment uses bubble gum too (hearkening to the engineers lore "That thing was put together with bubble gum and bailing wire").  One experiment is actually a bit of a game, and could be made into one for multiple players.  I originally included the content in You Will Fly Spaceships, but realized very early that the added spaceflight topic would overly fatten the book beyond my target of less than 50 pages.  This book should allow anyone of any age to look at space news and understand a lot more then they already might.  My hope is that I net a few kids into the wonderful world of space technology, and just maybe get a few future engineers, scientists, and astronauts in the process.  I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did creating it, for it is truely a labor of love for me.  Bright stars and fast craft, Bryce Have you ever wanted to design your own spaceship? Whatare the parts of a spaceship? What is thrust? How do rocketengines make spaceships go? What do people need to liveinside a spaceship? How do you control a spaceship? Whatare all those wires? Why do I need a spaceship? These andmany more questions are answered inside. From a simpleand easy to understand approach, kids and adults will be ableto look at many kinds of spaceships and understand whatthey do, and why they look the way they do. Experimentsmake physics and engineering fun. Complex-sounding ideasare broken down so that little to no prior knowledge isrequired. Advanced readers can find a set of math basedproblems and answers at the end. This book will allowanyone of any age to learn, and You Will Design Spaceships! The third book in the You Will ____ SpaceTM series. Bryce L. Meyer is a modern polymath of a type, having advanced degrees in Engineering and Biology, and work experience in the highest technologies of both, and many interests.  He is a former USAF officer, and has worked as an aerospace engineer, internet engineer, software engineer, professor, run a business, managed big stuff, done biological research, and volunteered in many areas. He is an avid fisherman, and spent hundreds of hours above and under fresh and saltwater.  He illustrates his own books, and has amassed a large portfolio of wildlife art. Most of all, he loves his beautiful wife, his nieces and nephews, and the potential encapsulated in every child.  He donates the proceeds of his children's books to children's charities, and often donates more books than he sells. He believes the future of humanity is one where people populate more worlds than just Earth, starting with the Moon and Mars.
