About this item

Cutting Class

Cutting Class begins with P.B. initials short for PonyBoy, named after the famous book that his mother was once obsessed with. P.B. is very angry, and partly blames this on his father having been in prison for P.B.'s entire life. His mother refuses to talk about why his father is in prison for murder, an act that his father committed when he was 18, the age that P.B. will soon be, so P.B. finds his mother's journals from when she was 15 and begins to read them in hopes that it will help him understand how he ended up a fatherless kid. The journals portray the tragic love story of his unpopular parents in the public school system, where his mother is a loner who talks to no one, and his father is a cute book worm who all the girls fawn over, but who has an angry side that is soon pushed to its limits by the high school football team. P.B. is nothing like his father, he is in fact a star member of his schools football team and quite popular, at least until he starts pursuing Pixie, the school token "weird girl". Maybe father and son are not that different. The story is completely different to anything i expected, in a good way. You feel connected to the characters. Overall i enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it as its not the usual sappy love story written for the YA group.- Goodreads reader. I love books about teens on the edge and a little messed up. The story about the parents, fascinating. T he character development is admirable and it makes you wonder what is going on in the mind of the author that would inspire this story. - Goodreads reader. There were some twists that I did not expect, and in the end, I ended up really liking the book and it was something unique.- Goodreads reader. This was a book full of lost souls. I was rooting for them to find their way. - Goodreads reader. Always a fan, or more realistically a quiet observer, of the "bad boys" in school, the ones, who were so cute, yet so confused, I wanted to write a novel that explored this idea, that the persona of a "bad boy" is passed from father to son for many generations. I also liked the idea of a unnamed main character. I liked it so much that the majority of the time I was writing the book, I named the file UKG, for Unknown Girl. She was P.B.'s mother but otherwise she was without a title, even to this day I do not know her name, although I knew everything else about her. I'm sure if she existed in real life her classmates would refer to her 20 years later as "you know that girl, the one who dated that guy who burned down the school, what was her name?" I was an unknown girl, and one who would have given up her favorite pencil in math class to the cute shy rebel, but not known what to do when the boy who speaks to know one spoke to her. This book is for the girl I was, and all the other girls who know what it is like to watch a rebel from afar. Magenta Periwinkle (pseudonym for Keli Chaffin) is the author of two books. SENTIMENTAL BULLS#*T is her first novel. Her second novel is CUTTING CLASS. Magenta Periwinkle works in a psychologist office and has several college degrees none of which have proven useful for anything except writing novels.
