This small collection is a powerful reflection on the team that wrote it; a representation of the diverse voices and experiences that make up the whole. These poems come from the hearts and hard earned victories, both large and small, that each of the poets within have won. The 2019 MindWell Slam team, who will represent New Mexico in the Southern Fried Poetry Slam regional, are artists whose voices speak to the motto of the community they come from: Stronger Than Stigma. The Mindwell poetry community is made up of people with lived experiences that have included being stigmatized and marginalized, but here in this small volume, are their words, and their hearts, laid bare. Here is evidence of their strength and their courage. Here is proof that poetry can, in fact, rise above.
