About this item

Foster's Market Favorites: 25th Anniversary Collection

Sara Foster's love of Southern fare began in her Granny Foster's Tennessee kitchen. There, the combination of down-home comfort, fresh-from-the-farm ingredients, and dedicated preparation hooked her for life. Now, in Foster's Market Favorites: 25th Anniversary Collection, Sara Foster serves up more than 150 recipes and 125-plus images from acclaimed photographer Peter Frank Edwards, sharing with readers the dishes that have kept diners coming back to the beloved Durham, NC eatery that she opened in 1990. In Foster's Market Favorites, the award-winning cookbook author and restaurateur continues the tradition of soulful yet simple, seasonally inspired cooking, where tradition meets modern. These fresh, satisfying creations are casual enough for everyday family meals, but special enough to serve friends and guests. Some of Sara's mouth-watering recipes include: Pimiento Cheese Puffs, Pecan Sweet Potato Sticky Buns, Chicken and Black-Eyed Pea Soup, Pickle-Brined Fried Chicken with Sriracha Honey, Chile-Braised Pork Shoulder with Taco Fixings, Heirloom and Shell Bean Salad with Sherry Vinaigrette, Dark Chocolate Buttermilk Bread Pudding with Bourbon Hard Sauce, and Brown Sugar Apple Crisp with Crumb Topping. Foster's Market Favorites is an all-inclusive collection of Southern cooking in which simple feasts meet artisanal ingredients, traditional tastes meet modern methods, and fantastic flavors make every bite a succulent mouthful of Southern comfort. Sara has done it again. You can be sure I will be roasting a Chile-Braised Pork Should and tossing Sara's Kale Salad with Tangerines, Avocado and Crispy Country Ham for my next weekend dinner party. --Martha Stewart Having eaten Sara's food and basked in the glow of Sara's inspiring personality and ever-expanding vision, I am thrilled to see it all wrapped together between the pages of this beautiful book. --Rick Bayless Foster's Market is a gourmet food market and cafe, focusing on scratch made soups, salads, casseroles, sandwiches and more. Everything is made in house, we even roast the turkey for our sandwiches. It is nearly impossible to describe Foster's with one set definition. We are a restaurant, coffee bar, specialty food store and catering company. We also make gift baskets and sell products on our online store. It seems a bit crazy, but it is really the combination of all these that makes Foster's a successful business. The awesome food, the superior service, the staff, the fun and the unexpected are what makes the Foster's experience a unique and rewarding one. The History... Sara Foster and her husband, Peter Sellers moved to Durham, North Carolina and opened Foster's Market in 1990, introducing great seasonal prepared foods to eat in or take out, specialty grocery items, locally roasted coffee and select wines. Foster's immediately became a wonderful gathering spot for Durham residents and Duke University students, professors and employees. In order to serve the increasing demand, additional space and food selections were added, but one thing has remained constant: our devotion to complete customer satisfaction. Our guiding principles have always been to serve great tasting food, offer superior customer service, have fun and earn a living. The market/cafe was such a success that Sara opened a second Foster's Market location in 1998 in Chapel Hill. As of September 3, 2014, the Chapel Hill location is no longer part of Foster's Market, and has been renamed The Root Cellar. Over the years Foster's Market has won many awards from Small Business of the Year to Best Lunch Spot in the Triangle. Sara also received the award for 2010 Restaurateur of the Year from the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association.
