I started one day studying a match between Johnny Archer and Efren Reyes, arguably the two best players in the world at the time that the match was played in 1996, and a this supposedly brief study evolved into a book and DVD combo. I chose this match because of their skill, the closeness of the contest (it went double-hill), because of the variety of situations that they faced, and for the learning experience that the contest offers for serious students of the game. In doing the research, I began to full appreciate the concept of layering - that is, watching the match over and over (9-10 times in all) with a particular goal in mind each time - timing the shots, studying the position routes, observing their fundamentals, and so on. I love to study and research pool, and this project gave me yet another opportunity to follow my passion.
