Sawtooth-White Cloud

Acclaimed nature photographer Mark Lisk's powerful photos expose a striking side of the lakes and rocky heights of a remote slice of the American wild. Deep in Idaho s newly designated White Clouds Wilderness Area and the dramatic peaks of the Sawtooth Wilderness, together Lisk and writer Nicole LeFavour bring to life the light and stark beauty of the silence and stillness of these high places perched far from where most will ever travel. Acclaimed nature photographer Mark Lisk's powerful photos expose a striking side of the lakes and rocky heights of a remote slice of the American wild. Deep in Idaho's newly designated White Clouds Wilderness Area and the dramatic peaks of the Sawtooth Wilderness, with Nicole Lefavor's insightful and informative essays underscoring the light and stark beauty of the silence and stillness of these high places perched far from where most will ever travel, "Sawtooth-White Cloud" is an inherently fascinating read and an ideal browsing choice for the armchair traveler. --Library Bookwatch - May 2016 Photographer Mark Lisk has long roamed the deserts, mountains and river canyons of the American west by foot. A graduate of Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts, Mark climbs from the sea to high ridges and plains, gathering within his camera worlds of color and expanse that few ever see or capture in any form. From dry curls of patterned lake bottom to the tiniest brilliant lichen set before a vast line of granite peaks. His strong sense of composition, complements black and white tones giving the viewer a sense of isolation, alone in a wide sweeping landscape. Nicole LeFavour grew up in central Idaho on a ranch at the feet of the White Cloud Range. After seven years working alone deep in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness as a fire lookout and wilderness ranger, hydrology tech¬nician and sometimes fire fighter, she moved to Boise where she served in the Idaho State Legisla-ture for eight years. Nicole has an undergraduate degree in cognitive science from U.C. Berkley and an MFA in writing from the University of Montana. She currently is writing a memoir and working as a naturalist and teacher.
