About this item

Through Thick and Thin: A Cat Leigh and Marci Welles Crime Novel (Cat Leigh and Marci Welles Crime Novels)

When long-time friends Cat Leigh and Marci Welles become partners in the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division, the pairing seems preordained. Since freshman year of high school, the two women have been best friends. Where Cat is a New York sophisticate, tall, blond and beautiful, Marci is a West Virginia mountain girl – short, dark haired and pleasingly plump. Both are quick witted and known for their irreverent sense of humor. The women have repeatedly impressed their peers by their ability to read each other’s minds. Called to the scene of a possible murder on a closed beach, Cat and Marci discover the victim is a lifeguard who was loved by many women and hated by many more. The investigation reveals that, at least, 800 women have been laid and played by the victim and each is a willing subject in a book his ex-wife has written about her years of marriage misery. At the same time, a series of rape/murders takes over the headlines. As Cat is a rape survivor, her perspective is a valuable part of the investigation. Eventually, it becomes clear that Cat’s rape and the rape/murder of the recent victims are intertwined.Through Thick and Thin is a character driven crime novel. The story is based on the real life friendship between two strong women—one a rape survivor and the other the CSI who helped to capture her best friend’s attacker. "I have some wonderful news. The Local Author Committee has completed the review process for your books, Through Thick and Thin, Silk Suit/Stone Heart and Private Hell . I am pleased to inform you that all three books have been accepted into the Palm Beach County Library System. The Local Author Collection is located in six library locations: the Gardens Branch in Palm Beach Gardens, the Wellington Branch in Wellington, the Lantana Road Branch in Lake Worth, the Okeechobee Boulevard Branch in West Palm Beach, the West Boca Branch in Boca Raton and the Main Library on Summit Boulevard in West Palm Beach. Your books will now be available in each of these locations." ~M. Richie, Collection Development/Adult Non-Fiction~ On September 1st, I attended the dinner theater show of the play "Shell of a Man,' written by Donna Carbone. The impact this show had on the audience was palatable as evidence by the silence and tears of the men and women who were riveted by the dialogue and the performances of three very talented actors. The author brought the story of one man, a Vietnam Vet suffering from PTSD, right into the audience's hearts and souls. The story is timely and important for all Americans. We need to be more aware and informed of the real-time issues of our veterans and their sometimes lonely struggles to receive effective and continuing treatment. More understanding on the part of civilians and better educated physicians, advocates, and social workers is desperately needed if we are going to make positive changes. Ms. Carbone portrayed these issues through this brilliantly written, true-to-life account of one man's struggle. This is a human issue, a community issue, and a national issue. This story must be brought to small hamlets and large cities across the nation. It was so clear in watching the play that Ms. Carbone had no political agenda -- just a human agenda. As the author says in her story "...notice how an act of kindness can change a life forever." Thank you to the very talented and insightful Donna Carbone who, I understand, is from Palm Beach Gardens. Without her sensitive, thoughtful and most insightful creation, our community would surely be lacking. More of this type of theater offering is needed in our Northern Palm Beaches. There is an interest and need in our cultural Mecca,as evidenced by a SOLD OUT show with Standing Room Only. Kudos to the Another Broken Egg restaurant and Harbourside Plaza for their cooperation and foresight in bringing this story to our community. We need more attention given to our local talent. Why, with so many venues available to showcase our homegrown authors and actors, is no action taken by the entities capable of supporting such an effort? We are not only a community of professional theater. We are a diverse population that can be reached if only.... if only... benefactors would come forward to enhance and expand the opportunity to attend theater and experience the power of the written word for everyone. The audience's reaction to this show was evidence of a great need. People are yearning for quality writing about pertinent issues. By creating this successful dinner show production, Ms. Carbone proved that people are hungry for more than good food. ~A. Love/Palm Beach Post~ "In the first two books in the Cat Leigh and Marci Welles crime novel series, readers will build a personal relationship with my brave and determined lady detectives. In  Through Thick and Thin , readers will meet some very devious criminals including the Kalendar Killer, the Ribbon Rapist and a lifeguard who used his breast
