Controversies in Revelation: A Comparative Analysis of Premillennial Interpretation

The Book of the Revelation has been the subject of much controversy throughout the ages. The “literal” interpretation of it has often been equated with extremism and was even outlawed during the Middle Ages, yet with the nineteenth century the literalism of the ancient Church Fathers saw a resurgence. Over the past two hundred years, commentators have debated on the meaning of Revelation and names like Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye have become household names. Now, for the first time, Dr. Criswell has written a comparative analysis of the various literal (or “premillennial”) interpretations. The views of the Church Fathers are compared and contrasted with the views of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The reader will be able to evaluate the various positions and reach their own conclusions. Nearly 2000 endnotes and over 50 charts and graphs will also help the readers whether they be a student, scholar, or layman. David Criswell has a Ph.D. from Tyndale Seminary and a M.Div. from Criswell College. He is also a Fellow at Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary. David spent three years researching and working on Controversies in Revelation. This was actually the first of the Biblical Controversies series to be written although the last in the series. The volumes include Controversies in the Pentateuch, Controversies in Scriptures Vol. II, Controversies in the Prophets, Controversies in Gospels, and Controversies in the Epistles. He has also written The Rise and Fall of the Holy Roman Empire and the fiction romance, Valley of the Blind which is in development as a film. Dr. Criswell was also the editor-in-chief of the Evangelical Standard from 2007 to 2010 and was named Goodwill Ambassador to Israel during the Iraq war of 2003.
