Bestselling author and renowned relationships expert Barbara De Angelis offers you her profound insights and powerful techniques for creating more real moments of meaning with your mate, your children, your work, and yourself. Barbara takes you on an inner journey that will help you discover the peace and fulfillment you've been seeking. Real Moments is more than an uplifting book--it is a powerful invitation to transform your life and a practical manual for nourishing your spirit. Learn: How to tap into your own source of spiritual power and wisdom. How to find extraordinary miracles in each ordinary day. How to find your life's work--and why it has nothing to do with your job. How you and your partner can rekindle and deepen your commitment--moment by passionate moment. How to find the gift that is inside each problem or crisis. How to be happy right now...with what you have and who you are. The best-selling author of How To Make Love All the Time (LJ 6/1/87), among other titles, DeAngelis here examines the relationship we have with life and our search for inner peace. In this mix of philosophy and psychology, she argues that American society suffers from posttraumatic stress syndrome and that its members have anesthetized themselves to life. If Americans can learn to feel pain and pleasure and not rush through life, they will ultimately be happier with themselves and their surroundings. Although DeAngelis's message is not new, it is presented in the highly accessible vocabulary of the 1990s. As a result, more sophisticated readers may sometimes find the work cloying. Nevertheless, DeAngelis is sincere and heartfelt. Her work is at its worst harmless and at its best capable of leading readers to revelations about their lives. Because DeAngelis is a popular talk show guest, all public libraries should expect demand. January Adams, ODSI Research Lib., Raritan, N.J. Copyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc. More Insight Lite from bestselling author De Angelis (Are You the One for Me?, 1992, etc.), this time on the need to stop and smell the roses. Once again, De Angelis takes a common-sense proposition (in this age of anxiety, as she points out with more sincerity than originality, we need to slow down, take a deep breath, and learn how to live in the moment) and stretches it into a book. In the process, she provides generally superficial analyses, credulously regurgitating factoids (``I recently heard a sociologist on the radio share an amazing fact: With the use of satellites, television and computers, you and I receive more information in one day of our lives than our ancestors of several generations ago used to receive in 1000 days!'') and mixing Eastern meditation techniques, neoNative American philosophy, pop psychology, and personal anecdotes into a thin New Age gruel. She liberally salts it with quotes from other grocery store gurus, such as ``Dan Millman, who's written several wonderful books about what he calls the `peaceful warrior.' '' But De Angelis's basic premise, and her advice on how to tune out the static of modern life and concentrate on what matters, are sound, if simplistic. She offers shortcuts to inner peace and harmony for harried Americans eager for a quick fix, including a sort of modern mantra (``Right now'') to help readers focus on the present and a formula for keeping the magic in your marriage (give your partner ``Love Snacks''--a quick kiss, hug, or kind word--several times a day). For people who regret the lack of spirituality in their lives but aren't inclined to seek it through organized religion or rigorous soul-searching, this upbeat, easy-to-digest self-help book could be just the ticket.
